| 'Q' sheds at R.A.F Binbrook Linc's about 1969. I was on a weeks QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) we used to have two Lightnings fully armed ready to go . The duty rotated between all the Lightning Squadrons on the East coast at Binbrook, Wattisham, Leuchars. We used to do a weeks stretch at a time living in accommodation attached to the 'q' sheds. Pilots rotated but ground crew were there for the whole week covering 24 Hrs a day. When the alarm sounded it was strap in and wait to be scrambled not knowing if it was the real thing or not ! |
